In the article on the example of Liao Empire the social-political transformation of nomads under conditions of the conquest of the territories with settled population has been analysed. The special attention is paid to the processes of complication of social structure of Khitan people and to the factors hampering the full integration of nomads and agricultural population of Northeastern China.
