The focus of the study is the political and legal views of the outstanding domestic pre-revolutionary lawyer, scientist, professor at Kazan University, the iconic figure of Russian civilistics - Gabriel Feliksovich Shershenevich. The need to disclose the indicated topic is determined by the fact that the views of the named thinker had a great influence on the development of jurisprudence in Russia, in the field of both civilistics and the general theory of law. The authors emphasize that G.F. Shershenevich is rightfully considered one of the first systematisators of domestic law. He introduced into scientific circulation a significant number of legal categories and formulations; many modern problems of jurisprudence are identified and formulated; comprehensive answers are given to a number of questions that remain relevant at present. It should be emphasized that the conclusions of the jurist developed more than a hundred years ago in the 21st century serve as guidelines for scientists in solving various conflicts in civil law relations.
