Problems and prospects for development of the southern region of Uzbekistan

The article discusses the problems and prospects of development of the Surkhandarya region, located in the south of Uzbekistan. Statistical data on the dynamics of changes in the number and place of residence of the population are given. The values of the gross regional product and deflator index for the period from 2017 to 2019 are considered. The growth rates of the services provided are shown, including freight and passenger turnover for all modes of transport, as well as foreign trade, exports and imports to the CIS countries and other countries in 2018 and 2019. The analysis of these data allows us to formulate the main directions of the development strategy of the Surkhandarya region.
