Consolidation problems of the modern Russian society

The article analyzes the split of Russian society in the post-Soviet period. The studies suggest that Western - Slavophil duality is an integral feature of the national character. Russian society is stratified on the carriers of the traditional and modern consciousness, on supporters of the «special» and European ways of development, supporters of Russia as a special civilization or Eurasian one. The author joins the findings of the Institute of Sociology of Russian Academy of Sciences, which defined Russia as a European-Eurasian country. Scientific substantiation of these processes will contribute to the convergence of positions of scientists, and then of a large part of the Russians. The author reveals the solution of other fundamental tasks, important for the consolidation of Russian society.
