The problems of the defense industry in the administration of president Bill Clinton

The research deals with the issues of the military industry development in the United States during the period of the administration of President Bill Clinton. The main methods of solving these problems were to be the development of dual-use technologies applicable in both military industry and civilian sectors of the economy; the creation of conditions for economic growth while preserving the interests of the military business; the modernized arms supply and procurement chain established over many decades to bring it into line with the changes in the system of economic relations. These ideas were impossible to implement without taking into account the recommendations of the Defense Conversion Commission which had the goals of studying the economic effects of the decline in appropriations for the purchase of arms and other military goods and searching for means and methods to mitigate the negative impacts. The authors noted that the priority was to shift the emphasis concerning the achievement of the defense industry objectives from the national security issues to the creation of the environment for increasing the competitiveness of the American economy.
