Problems of legal regulation of firearms and ammunition turnover in the Russian Federation and ways to improve legislation in the sphere of arms and ammunition turnover

The article is devoted to the analysis of problems related to the illegal trafficking of weapons and ammunition in the Russian Federation. The main factors contributing to the proliferation of illegal weapons are highlighted. The contradictions in the current legislation, in particular in the Federal Law “On Weapons”, which create difficulties in qualifying crimes in this area, are discussed. Special attention is paid to statistical data on the sources of illegal weapons and the prevalence of violations of legislation in the field of arms trade. A number of measures have been proposed to improve legislation and law enforcement practices, including stricter requirements for the purchase of weapons, increased medical control over gun owners, clarification of legal definitions, and tougher liability for illegal weapons production.
