The transition of society to the informational stage of development leads to the modernization of the methods of committing crimes. At the same time, criminal legislation should also be improved, which should be armed with modern tools that adequately reflect the degree of social danger of crimes. In recent years, the growth of remote theft has been rapidly increasing and, according to the forecast of scientists and practitioners of internal affairs bodies, the number of crimes committed using information and telecommunication technologies will continue to grow. This article is devoted to the criminal procedural analysis of topical problems of preliminary investigation of property crimes committed with the use of information and telecommunication technologies. Considering certain legal norms of criminal procedure legislation in the light of the investigation of this category of crimes, the authors come to the conclusion that it is possible to improve legislation in this area.
