The article gives an overview of the development of geo-information technologies and methods of agent-based modeling and considers the possibilities of integration of these technologies in the construction of simulation models by Russian and foreign researchers. The article presents an overview of the capabilities of modern geo-information technologies, the current status of methods of remote sensing and thematic mapping as the foundation for modern geographic information systems. We consider in more detail the basic stages of development of distributed geographic information systems, their main advantages compared to desktop systems and make a review of basic tools for processing and analyzing spatial data.
