The article considers the gender aspect of the problem of degradation of peasants (raskrest’yanivanie) in the period of transformations carried out since the 1990s and its consequences. The Russian countryside had and still has a huge economic, demographic and resource potential, the effective use of which largely determines the development of the entire Russian economy in general. Despite the implementation of state and national, regional projects and programs, the authors believe that the modern village continues to be in a state of deep crisis, manifested in the deterioration of demographic indicators, high unemployment rate and reduced quality of life of the total rural population. The authors substantiate that the social crisis has led to the degradation of rural communities and to the deterioration of the status of women.
