The aim of this paper is to explore the theory of religious memory of the French philosopher and sociologist Maurice Halbwachs, as set out in his famous book “The Social Framework of Memory”, and to analyze the role of his remembrance theory in the context of modern culture. In his book, the French philosopher examines various types of social memory. M. Halbwachs analyzes such a phenomenon as religious memory. He attempted to clarify the persistence and permanence of religious memory, which, contrary to the patterns of duration of other types of social memory, does not fade with time. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that if one tries to investigate memory in the form of tradition - then religious memory, in the concept of M. Halbwachs, is a special kind of memory. As a result, the process of religious memory formation becomes clearer, which, according to M. Halbwachs, is subject to the same laws as the formation of collective memory.
