In the article the author considers the situation with social diseases in 1990-2000 in the Republic of Buryatia. Due to socio-economic transformations that took place as a whole throughout the country, a decrease in funding for the health sector, and a decrease in the standard of living of the population, the republic is experiencing an increase in the incidence of social diseases: tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV and others. In this paper, the situation of the incidence of tuberculosis and syphilis is considered. The incidence of tuberculosis begins to increase in 1991 and by the end of the 90s. increases almost 3 times, and in certain categories more than 5 times. The average federal indicator is exceeded by 2 times. At the same time, the incidence is growing both among adults and among children. An even more difficult situation in the republic was with sexually transmitted diseases. In the 1990s the incidence of syphilis has grown almost 200 times! Buryatia was among the regions most disadvantaged in terms of the incidence of syphilis, which did not pass by the child population. In order to combat the increase in the incidence of social diseases and to stabilize the epidemiological situation in the republic, in 1996 republican targeted and comprehensive programs were developed and adopted, and the Law of the Republic of Buryatia “On the Protection of the Population of the Republic of Buryatia from Tuberculosis” was adopted. The programs were not fully funded, but by the beginning of the 2000s. it was possible to achieve some stabilization of the situation regarding the incidence of social diseases.
