The article is devoted to the study of problems of protecting the rights of consumers of insurance services in terms of informing the policyholder when concluding an insurance contract. Based on an analysis of statistics on appeals from citizens - consumers of insurance services to various authorities to protect their rights, it was concluded that a significant proportion of refusals to accept applications for consideration and refusals to satisfy claims are associated with low awareness of policyholders about the features of the insurance service. The main reasons are the separation of the insurance contract and insurance rules, the formal approach of insurers to informing consumers of insurance services, and the low financial literacy of consumers - individuals. Bottlenecks in informing consumers of insurance services have been identified. Analysis of the Basic Standard for the protection of the rights and interests of individuals and legal entities - recipients of financial services provided by members of self-regulatory organizations that unite insurance organizations made it possible to identify shortcomings in this document and develop directions for further improving the protection of the rights of consumers of insurance services in terms of obtaining the necessary information by the policyholder. A conclusion is made about the low efficiency of the system of behavioral supervision carried out through self-regulatory organizations of insurers.
