Procedures of public order "consumption" by Chukchi (case study of data of the late XVIII - early XIX centuries)

The article considers some features of the dialogue between the Russian Empire and the indigenous people of northeastern Siberia - Chukchi - at the late XVIII -early XIX century. By studying a number of travelers' descriptions it is concluded that Chukchi used the new social realities, which had been introduced by the colonizer, selectively. Local people acted rather pragmatically and in their own interests.
