This article examines the possible combination of the ontological ideas of A.N. Whitehead and the structural and psychological analysis of photography by R. Barth, in order to make a new contribution to the scientific study of this issue, which previously suffered too much from Eurocentrism, based on the cross-cultural convergence of European and Chinese visual experience in mastering the expressive possibilities of photography. It is reported that A.N. Whitehead noted the importance of events as a reflection of reality, including in social history, and ontologically justified the importance of fixing external procedural manifestations of reality in the subject's inner experience. R. Barth considered photography from a phenomenological point of view, emphasizing the subjective emotional connection between the viewer and the photographic work. The conclusion is that these theories complement each other in the context of the interpretation of situational photography, which serves as a means of documenting the elements of existence for the possibility of its perception and reinterpretation by subjects of different historical periods.
