The modern enhanced rules of the institution of a jury trial in criminal proceedings of the Russian Federation update the administration issues of a trial in a complicated differentiated form. The author focuses on the tasks of the presiding judge as the key procedural figure of criminal proceedings conducted by a jury trial. The article addresses both procedural and administration issues relating to the quality of the administration of justice in the trial under review. The author emphasizes the issues of unduly long proceedings and proposes a number of constructive suggestions aimed at improving the quality of preparation of the criminal proceedings and optimizing time limits for examining criminal cases by a jury trial.
