The aim of research is to study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state of food security in the Russian Federation. The study examined the impact of the COVID-2019 pandemic on the Russian agri-food system in the short, medium and long term. The indicators of physical and economic availability of food are analyzed in comparison with the threshold values of the Doctrine of Food Security in Russia. Regions with high and catastrophic economic levels of food availability are identified. The tendencies of consumer prices for foodstuffs and the causes of food needs are revealed. The mechanism of "grain damper" is disclosed and its influence on food security is determined. It is noted that high risks in agri-food trade remain in 2022-2023. Enhancing the resilience of the agri-food system requires action to promote diversity in food sources, production structures, product markets and food supply chains, as diversity offers many ways to deal with threats and risks.
