The article provides an analysis of plans to strengthen Russia’s position in the Far East, proposed by Captain 1st Rank I.F. Likhachev in the notes to Admiral General Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich in 1859. Likhachev understood the critical situation of the Russian diplomatic mission in China, and proposed sending a detachment of Russian warships to the Far East. Likhachev’s ideas were implemented in 1860, which made it possible to ensure the annexation of the Primorye and Amur River regions to Russia, significantly expanding its possessions in the Far East.
