The project «Entrance control» at the university: purpose, technology, result

A problem stands out: a significant part of first-year students have gaps in the school mathematics course and cannot study. The question is being considered: is there at least a hypothetical possibility of creating and implementing such a project in which first-year students independently discover gaps in their knowledge and independently begin to eliminate them? According to the author, the positive answer to this question is the educational project «Entrance Control». Its success is impossible without a systematic approach and high-quality execution of each of its elements: the content of questions and answers; testing scenario; a large volume of a bank of questions and answers; provision of individual training materials to a first-year student at the end of testing for self-elimination of detected gaps; competitiveness; availability of repeated testing by the end of the semester to verify the results of self-study. Based on the results of the project implementation in 2021, it is concluded that the level of knowledge of first-year students in school mathematics is growing.
