The study discussed the development of vocational education in the Arctic regions of Yakutia in the 1970-1980s. In the 1960s, the educational level of working youth was very low in the Yakut ASSR, especially in the Arctic rural settlements. The traditional agricultural industry in Yakutia was in need of inflow of young people. However, the youth was reluctantly involved in the reindeer-herding sector. The Soviet leader paid close attention to the tasks of further agricultural development and set Yakut vocational schools the task of training systematically skilled workers for all sectors of the national economy. It was necessary to create rural secondary vocational schools based on advanced state farms and large agricultural machinery enterprises. The increase in the number of vocational schools in the 1970-1980s led to the qualitative renewal of agro-industrial staff by involving young people in this sector.
