The authors attempt to establish the place of the Russian trade unions in a complex system of ensuring political stability in the country. Trade unions are the largest pressure groups, which articulate and represent the interests of millions of hired workers. They can promote optimization of state social and labor policy and help citizens to bring their requirements to authorities in a civilized way. Existence of the institutionalized trade-union movement can prevent spontaneous and destructive labor protests, which can develop into political disorders. The authors conclude that modern trade unions considerably determine the nature of political participation of wide groups of citizens and, therefore, have significant effect on institutional stability of political system in general. The stabilizing capacity of trade unions can be used for counteraction to color revolutions and protection of Russia’s national interests.
