Prevention of child abandonment: current issues, approaches

The author considers the main directions of child abandonment prevention: early detection of family problems, support of families in dangerous social situation, development of adoptive family institute, psycho-pedagogical and social support for foster families, adaptation of graduates from boarding. The causes of child abandonment are unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, as well as crisis of families. And whether the family needs attention or not, it depends on its own internal resources. If for one reason or another there is a lack of resources, such a family should be identified at the earliest stages of distress. The systematic complex work with such families should be based on compliance with legitimate rights and interests of the child. The main aim of this rehabilitation work is to keep biological family for the minor.
