Suicide and suicide-related behaviour, across all age groups and including young people, is a significant public health concern in Australia. Although research evidence is limited, Australia has a strong commitment to the prevention of suicide. This is exemplified by the longstanding existence of a national suicide prevention strategy, by the pioneering of novel approaches to suicide prevention, including the delivery of internet based interventions to at-risk youth, and via a series of national programs and some initiatives, which together have the capacity to pave the way for an innovative and coordinated approach to reducing suicide risk among Australian youth.
