The paper deals with the history of the terms ‘nachkh’, ‘nakhch’, and ‘nuokhch’ identified while studying the traditional system of agricultural metier of the Chechen people. The analysis of lexical units is based on the author’s field materials. The research revealed that the terms ‘nachkh’ and ‘nakhch’ in economic activity were considered as the final products obtained as a result of the production processes. The methods of manufacturing the product, called ‘internal’ and ‘external’, differed slightly, which was the reason for the consimilar names of these products. The paper describes the difference in the production of nakhch and nachkh by reviewing the process of cheese production. The etymology of the term ‘nuokhch’ is studied. This word appeared due to the alternation of the root vowel in the ‘nakhch’ lexeme. The alternation of the root vowel implies an action that complements the informative formula of the term. Nuokhch is defined as a part of nakhch obtained as a result of dividing it into separate parts by means of nuodakkhar (segmentation of a conical form).
