First metatarsal pronation in hallux valgus deformity: literature review

Relevance: the study of the biomechanical features of valgus deformity of the first toe is an actual section of foot surgery. This is because despite the large number of proposed surgical techniques, a high percentage of deformity recurrence remains. In recent years, there has been increased interest in the phenomenon of pronation of the first metatarsal bone, which is one of the key components of deformity development.Purpose of the study: to review the literature on the topic of pronation deformity of the first metatarsal bone and to systematize the available data. Material and methods: a literature review was performed in the PubMed, eLibrary system with the keywords "hallux valgus", "hallux valgus pronation", "first metatarsal pronation", "pronation of the first metatarsal bone", "valgus deformity of the first toe". According to the keywords, 543 articles were found, among which 23 publications were selected on the topic of pronation of the first metatarsal bone.Results and discussion. The review of the literature showed that the topic is relevant in foot surgery, however, the number of studies conducted does not allow, now, to draw unambiguous conclusions, which requires further research on large groups.
