The article presents a study of the standard of living of the population from the standpoint of assessing differentiation and economic security. The main goal is to assess the spatial polarization of the standard of living of the population as one of the most important indicators of the economic security of the state. The research methodology consists in typology of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in order to identify trends in their inequality, assess differentiation using decile coefficients, and use an indicative method to determine the relationship with economic security. In this regard, it is proved that the results of the social policy of the state are realized in the reduction of inter-regional differentiation in a number of important indicators. The remaining problems are related to the uneven socio-economic development of the regions, their historical features, natural and climatic conditions, and natural potential. As a result, a statement was formulated about the persistence of interregional inequality in terms of the standard of living of the population and its deepening, as well as the impact on the economic security of the regions.
