Space in economic science: theoretical aspects of evolution

The article is devoted to the research in the evolution of space in economic science on the basis of domestic and foreign scientists’ works. The conducted analysis shows that the essence of the category “space” can be considered in terms of subject-object and subject-subject interaction. The modern economic theory defines space as a resource for regional development; there are several types of spaces: economic, social, cultural, political, etc. The study of scientific literature indicates that to date there is no single definition of the category “economic space”. The article determines that many problems to develop Russia’s economic space cannot be solved without a logical TEP and, above all, a unified concept of the study of economic space as an economical object that will give the opportunity to formulate approaches to the analysis of social environment development in terms of increasing its capacity by selecting indicators that will allow us to reveal the factors determining directions of economic development.
