Jevgenij Kemnitz (1832-1871) was self-taught. However he became one of the leading experts on issues of pedagogy in the 1860-ies. His reviews and critics which published in the journal “Teacher” attracted the attention of the pedagogical public to the depth of thought, independence of judgment and the polemical enthusiasm. He defended the traditional for Enlightenment pedagogy approach to children’s literature, called for the depiction of reality as the only way of proper education.
