Contradictions in social memory on the place of religion in Russian society and their consequences

The article analyzes historical features of the religion influence on the development of Russian culture and on the functioning of the Russian model of relations between society and the State. A comparative analysis made it possible to examine the conditions for the loss of the religion influence as a source of values and national consolidation on the social and political development of the Russian State. The author thinks that the consequence of the socio-cultural split that has arisen as a result of the decline in the authority of religion is a socio-cultural trauma. This condition is defined as the main barrier to modernization in modern Russia.
