Greenhouse gas protocol as a genre of environmental discourse

The article examines the features of environmental discourse based on the text Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 Guidance presented for analysis within an educational project with an industrial enterprise of the region. Various features of the protocol genre of institutional environmental discourse are indicated such as focus on environmental issues, considering environmental aspects in decision-making, characteristics of communication participants and the use of specialized vocabulary. The document under study not only provides methods and recommendations for accounting for greenhouse gas emissions, but also discloses a variety of factors, including socio-cultural and economic ones. The analysis of all components of the discourse can be applied in the theory and practice of translation, pre- and post-editing, will serve as the basis for further work with environmental texts, as well as guidelines for a translation strategy and linguistic support of translation activities.
