The prose of Harbin writer Boris Yulsky in the context of ethnographic aspects of literary works of the far eastern emigration

The article deals with the prose of Boris Yulsky, one of the prominent novelist of the Far Eastern emigration, whose works have strong ethnographic aspects so typical to the whole prose of the Russian Far East. Yulsky was neither a traveler, nor a naturalist: his works rest on his knowledge of the Chinese culture and traditions of Russian literature of the beginning of XXth century (Anton Chekhov, Ivan Bunin, Leonid Andreev), as well as on the prose of Jack London and Far Eastern writers such as N.A. Baikov, P. V Shkurkin, M.V. Shcherbakov. Yulsky creates his own art mythology that combines Russian mental attitudes, Far Eastern frontier mythology, traditions of the Western adventure literature and naturalistic Far Eastern prose.
