Epidemiological and psychopathological methods were used for examination of 276 male prisoners aged 18-25 years. 142 persons have been diagnosed with mental and substance use disorders with suicidal behavior being in the period of confinement. Respective from presence or absence of substance abuse, two groups have been distinguished. Group I (n=86) - prisoners with comorbid mental and substance use disorders and suicidal behavior. Group II (n=56) - only mental diseases and suicidal behavior without substance abuse. In structure of psychiatric pathology in group I besides substance abuse, character accentuations dominated. Whereas group II showed organic and personality disorders, in group I suicidal behavior was frequently revealed in patients with comorbid alcohol abuse and personality disorders (28,6 %), character accentuations (61,9 %), mild mental retardation (9,5 %); then in patients with comorbid heroin addiction and organic mental disorders (27,3 %), character accentuations (63,6 %); then in patients with comorbid polydrug use and personality disorders (45,5 %), organic mental disorders (27,3 %), character accentuations (27,3 %). Revealed correlations between suicidal behavior and mental and substance use disorders are important to consider in prevention of suicidal behavior.
