This article reveals the ethnocultural specificity of the language consciousness of the Khakass people using the example of animalistic images of a bear and a horse. The material for the study was the corresponding associative fields presented in the manuscript version of the Khakass Associative Dictionary [2022]. The image of a bear is primarily associated with its habitat and is perceived as the spirit or master of the taiga. While the image of a horse is associated with such qualities as strength, endurance, beauty, as well as with certain behavioral characteristics and work activities. In a broad sense, the zoonyms bear and horse are included in the category of unique linguistic units of the Khakass language with multilayered semantics. These words not only denote animals, but also include zoomorphic characteristics of humans and elements of traditional mythological ideas that manifest themselves in the linguistic consciousness of native speakers of the Khakass language.
