The article analyzes the concepts of “formation”, “development”, “professionalism”, “professional development”. The essential characteristics of these processes and features of it occurrence are revealed. It common features are revealed based on the analysis of philosophical approaches to the concepts of “formation” and “development”. The article cites the results of research of readiness of teachers to self-development and environment, which conducive to this process. The authors, based on the theoretical analysis and experimental studies, concluded that the role of psychological barriers in professional development of teachers. And it is determined one of the factors that provide a positive overcoming barriers arising is the process of self-development.
