The article presents the results of a study of the relationship of individual psychological characteristics and driving style in the mentally healthy and persons with mental disorders - participants in an accident. We examined 104 mentally healthy people aged 18-59 years (average age 29.95 ± 9.29) and 74 with a diagnosis of mental illness at the age of 21-58 years (average age 38.0 ± 10.9) rights to drive a vehicle of category "B". The diagnostic complex included techniques aimed at the study of individual psychological and cognitive characteristics of the personality. It was found that the basis of dangerous behavior on the road is a close relationship between individual psychological characteristics, reflecting violations of the emotional-volitional sphere and self-regulation, and driving style, which leads to the commission of erroneous actions and the adoption of ineffective decisions in an operational road environment. Regardless of the presence of a mental disorder, drivers who violate traffic rules are significantly more likely to be involved in traffic accidents.
