This article examines the influence of the personal qualities of a sports coach on the formation of a holistic picture of the world of future athletes. The period of formation of the profession of a sports coach is reflected within the framework of the history of the development of sports in our country. An analysis of the theoretical basis on sports psychology, methodology for the development of basic competencies and the study of specific examples of the positive influence and conditions of psychological interaction between the coach and students are provided. A wide range of scientific works on the influence of the personality of a sports coach on the professional component has shown the need to determine the basic qualities necessary for work. The main part of the article identifies four substructures of the personality of a sports coach. A description is given of the basic competencies of a modern trainer and the set of requirements with which this specialist works. Each coach goes through his own unique path of becoming an educator, facing numerous difficulties and overcoming them over time. The path to becoming a true educator is through practical trial and error. A good coach must have a deep understanding of the psychology of athletes, their motives, aspirations and needs. This is the only way to choose the most suitable working methods and create optimal conditions for the upbringing and development of each athlete.
