The article analyzes the potential possibilities of using psychological portraits of criminals on the example of the investigation of serial murders, which are expressed in establishing the psychological picture of the killers. The author notes that the problem of multi-episode murders takes place both in the social reality of the past, present and controversial moments in their prevention and suppression in the future. The urgency of developing a psychological portrait of the guilty person for each fact of committing repeated murder in order to identify and detain him is emphasized. It is pointed out that there is a need for a detailed forensic approach to the investigation of these crimes, which is expressed in a comprehensive assessment by specialists of various profiles of the signs of the criminal reflected in the murders, allowing them to make up his psychological portrait.
