Psychological and educational aspects of development of future music teachers’ skill to play an instrument

This paper examines the main psychological and pedagogical approaches to development of students’ ability to play an instrument. The author has formed a model of instrument playing competence. The article describes the results of experimental work consisted of several stages: defining of an initial level of students’ instrumental competence; identification of individual characteristics that influence the success of instrument playing; theoretical and training sessions; description of the musical and pedagogical strategies developing the skills of self-regulation and self-training according to the competence levels and structure aimed at achievement of optimal performance.
