Based on the theoretical analysis of literary sources and extensive practical experience in psychological and pedagogical support of physical education and sports among students, the main means of influencing the student in connection with the levels of control in the human body and behavior are given. The system of means of influencing students presented by the authors has the main goal - to help them discover their abilities in sports, to discover their athletic abilities due to the perfection of the mechanisms of mental regulation and selfregulation. The importance of psychology in the education of the need and motivation for physical culture among students is revealed, since high results in sports are closely related to the motivational sphere of a person. Several directions of personal and social components of students' mental health and conditions for improving the effectiveness of sports training are given. The article also discusses the main stages of overexertion during physical education and sports.
