Areas and directions of social, ethnic, national and regional identity formation in Ukraine

The article examines the complicated processes of transformation of the socio-political relations in Ukraine, which have led to the formation of social, ethnic, national and regional identities. The undertaken study shows that all these processes are quite complicated, because the specifics of linguistic, ethnic, religious focuses are modified in the regional dimension. The lack of effective cooperation between the regions or regional groups confirms the difference in methods of identification, manifesting itself in mental, linguistic, geopolitical, ideological aspects, which results in emergence of social conflicts.
