R. Descartes: "radical doubt" as the basis of autonomous subjectivity

This article examines the basic principles of descartes' methodical doubt, which enabled him to lay the foundations for all subsequent epistemology. The order of the mental steps leading the philosopher to the formulation of his method is analyzed. Consistently rejecting the various "mental authorities", descartes offers the cognizing subject to independently master the world of phenomena and essences.
