This article is devoted to the problem of preserving the human nature, in particular the personality, and the emerging opportunities for improving human capabilities because of the development of NBIC-technologies. The purpose of this article is to substantiate the idea that radical human enhancement is a threat to the personal identity. It is argued that the radical human enhancement is dangerous as the considerable experience and personal achievements will lose their value or become less significant for a person due to the emergence of new standards according to which society will evaluate the individual. The author analyses the psychological arguments in favour of this idea proposed by Nicholas Agar, a representative of a moderate human enhancement. The ideas of N. Agar are supplemented by the facts from the viewpoint of the social mechanism of identity formation.
