The present article contains basic stages of nuclear cardiology development in Russia and in the whole world, distinctive features of this kind of medical visualization. The distinctive feature of nuclear cardiology methods is their functionality. Not having high spatial resolution, scintigrams reflect physiological and pathophisiological changes, happening in an organism. It becomes possible when using radiopharmaceuticals, which are able to accumulate in the specific morphological structures and reflect the dynamics of physiological and biochemical processes happening in human body. The history of nuclear medicine development in Tomsk Institute of Cardiology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences is given in the article. Basic directions of scientific activity of laboratory of radionuclide research methods of Institute of Cardiology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences are provided. These directions include: development and testing of new radiopharmaceuticals; development of radioisotope diagnostic techniques in revealing inflammatory diseases of cardiovascular system; assessment of pulmonary heart functional state during thrombembolia of pulmonary artery branches and ventricular arrhythmia; study of the role of cerebral perfusion in the development of cognitive function in cardiologic patients; the usage of ventilation-perfusion scintigraphy in differential diagnostics of circumscribed infiltrative processes in lungs; the usage of radionuclide research methods in the study of cardio-renal continuum.
