The paper focuses on the chronology of the stratified Ksizovo-1 site. To clarify the age of its layers, diagnostical finds are compared with the results of radiocarbon dating of various types of organic materials (Fig. 2). The detailed analysis of ceramic vessels (Fig. 3–6) provided an opportunity to characterize four out of five chronological age ranges singled out on the basis of 20 AMS-dates. The first range dates the settlement of the Yamnaya- Repino type (2700–2500 BC), the second range dates the settlement of the Middle Don Catacomb culture (2400–2100 BC), both settlements are dated to the Bronze Age. The third range represented by one date (1111–903 cal BC) shows no correlations with the materials of the site. Early Iron Age settlements that penetrate the periphery of the Bronze Age layer are linked to the fourth range (776–43 cal BC). The data on the settlement and exploitation of the Ksizovo-1 vicinities during the late medieval period correspond to the fifth range (1308–1425 cal AD). Cross-verification determined the site of its multi-date deposits in the archaeological periodization and on the absolute chronological scale.
