Gastric cancer incidence for the population of Siberia and the Russian Far East during 1991-2005 was studied. No significant differences in the average gastric cancer incidence rates between the studied regions and the Russian Federation were observed, whereas differences in the disease incidence between males and females were found. Gastric cancer incidence among males was 2,4-fold higher than among females. The regions of Tomsk, Irkutsk, Sakhalinsk and the republics of Buryatia, and Tyva were found to be the territories of increased risk for gastric cancer. The territories of decreased risk for gastric cancer were Altai, Khakasia and the regions of Kamchatsk and Magadan. During 1991-2005, the gastric cancer incidence showed a tendency to decrease in the studied regions, that was especially noted in males. According to prognosis, the gastric cancer incidence in Siberia and the Russian Far East may be significantly changed by 2012.
