Computing the optimal coupling of phtonic crystal waveguides using a transmission matrix method

The electromagnetic field distribution at the coupling of two photonic crystal waveguides (PCW) is computed. By introducing an electric nonhomogeneity at the center of the PCW crosstalking is minimized. The transmission matrix method (TMM) employed in this work is shown to be suitable for evaluating the losses suffered at the PCW coupling. Compared with other methods for calculating the electromagnetic field, the use of the TMM essentially reduces the computation time.
