Poverty distribution in Russia and regional measures to reduce it

Бесплатный доступ

The article examines the problems of the spread of poverty in Russia and the proposed measures to reduce it at the regional level. Poverty and material disadvantage is an urgent problem for modern Russia; in 2020, 13.5% of the population were below the poverty line. Over the past eight years, the trend of an increase in the share of the poor has continued; for the seventh year in a row, real money income has been declining. The main groups at high risk of poverty are families with children, single pensioners and low-paid workers. Increased economic growth and government measures are not sufficient to significantly reduce poverty rates. Additional measures are proposed to reduce poverty: an increase in expenditures on wages of public sector employees, reforming the system of remuneration of public sector employees by increasing the size of salaries, social support of the population based on the principles of need.
