Distribution and activity of microorganisms in the proval bay of lake Baikal

In the water and the sediments of the shallow-water bay (sor) Proval of Lake Baikal the total count of microorganisms and viable number of bacterial groups participating in the organic matter destruction were counted. In sediments the value of d13С of organic matter (26,3‰) was determined. Aerobic destruction varied from 9,0 to 63,4 mg C/m2 in day, anaerobic destruction varied from 10,5 to 67,7 mg C/m2 in day.
