The prevalence of borderline personality disorder in adolescents

Diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) in adolescents is an urgent necessity in connection with the prevention of suicidal behavior and self-harm behavior. Authors examined 235 adolescents (mean age 16,6 years). Diagnostic of BPD was carried out using the «Questionnaire for Diagnostic BPD T. Y. Lasovskaya, Ts. P. Korolenko, S. V. Yaichnikov» (sensitivity - 95 %, specificity - 85 %, Cronbach's alpha - 0,86). Among the surveyed adolescents borderline personality disorder was diagnosed in 33 persons (23 girls and 10 boys), who represented 14 % of all observed cases. Suicidal attempts were registered in 33,3 % of adolescents with BPD.
