A short story "The sunstroke" by Ivan Bunin in the light of Christian anthropology

The article is dedicated to the analysis of Ivan Bunin’s short story “Sunstroke” in the light of some provisions of the Christian anthropology. The author oers an attempt of construction of the religious and moral contents of the story taking into account the publication of the story in the collection of stories “The Sunstroke” along with such works as “The Cicadas”, “The De led Saviour” and “Over Many Waters” which have an explicit religious content and give an opportunity to make the analysis of the whole collection of stories in the Christian context. The author considers the plot of the story and the internal state of the protagonist after the sudden trip love aair with a stranger woman through the prism of the Orthodox approach to such concepts as temptation, passion, confusion of the mind as a result of seduction, sources of the seducing thoughts in accordance with the concept of St. Isaac the Syrian. 70ЛитературоведениеThe article contains an attempt to explain the reasons why the protagonists commit the sin and considers the consequences of adultery in the form of extreme despair and despondency of the lieutenant.
