Different approaches to the assessment of the regional social and economic development

Due to the existence of numerous areas in the framework of the regional social and economic development, a fairly wide range of statistical indicators has to be attracted to assess the current situation. This article discusses some approaches to the selection of the system of indicators to assess the regional social and economic development, described in the Russian special literature. The separation of approaches according to their relation to the variation and aggregate data concept has been implemented. For the analysis, articles were selected in the time interval from 2013 to 2018 in the Russian Science Citation Index database on the keywords “assessment of regional social and economic development” and “indicators of assessment of regional social and economic development”.
